2008 TALLIS FESTIVAL

Quebec City, May 8th, 2008 – With works by the luminous composer of the English Renaissance, Thomas Tallis, at its heart, this second edition of Festival Tallis offers you a delightful musical voyage in time.
 
 Hear human voices become birdsong from the French Renaissance, lutesongs and lovesongs from England, chant and instrumentals along with two organs as they relate the medieval pilgrimage to Canterbury: all in the welcoming ambience of this enchanting little church built at the high point of the Gothic revival.

L’Ensemble Anonymus under the direction of Claude Bernatchez

From Becket to Chaucer, XIIe to XVe Century English and Continental music for organ, organetto, lute, percussion and chant. A historical and original recital of the famous Canterbury Pilgrimage : A foretaste of the new series of presentations by the l’Ensemble Anonymus this summer at St Michael’s Church

At the beginning of the concert, Irène Brisson, musicologist, will present the  program.

The launch of an exposition in image, sound, and script, which traces the roots deep in the fertile soil of Canterbury of this worldwide Communion now known as the Anglican Church. How did it get to where it’s got? How did it come to Quebec? How did it turn French? Where is it heading?
